For players looking to achieve quieter operation, improved durability, and highly accurate input control, the GamerFinger Optical Joystick PCB offers a practical and cost-effective upgrade. It is specifically designed for the popular Sanwa JLF joystick, making it an excellent choice for users who already own this lever and want to enhance its performance without replacing the entire unit.
Unlike traditional microswitch-based systems, this optical solution minimizes physical contact, resulting in near-silent operation and reduced wear over time. This helps maintain consistent responsiveness even after extended use. As part of a widely used multi-platform control PCB category, it strikes a solid balance between compatibility, reliability, and precision.
Please note that this product is not compatible with Kowal 1mm oversized actuators or any larger actuator modifications, as these may interfere with proper functionality. For best results, it is recommended to pair this PCB with Sanwa GT-8F 4/8-way restrictor plates or the GT-Y octagonal restrictor gate. These configurations allow the optical system to perform optimally. Circular restrictor plates, such as the GT-O insert, may reduce effectiveness and are not advised.
Installation is straightforward and can be completed with the following steps:
Begin by removing the existing square restrictor gate. Press the tabs inward on both sides—it's usually easiest to release one side first, then lift it out.
Next, carefully remove the small metal e-clip located at the bottom of the joystick shaft. Take care not to lose it.
After that, remove the actuator and spring positioned just above the e-clip. This will expose the TP-MA PCB, which houses the original microswitches.
Detach the TP-MA switch assembly from the joystick body, then install the GamerFinger Optical PCB in its place, ensuring the black cover is facing outward.
Connect the included 6-pin harness to the PCB. The signal and ground wires (black) can either be soldered to the corresponding directional inputs (up, down, left, right) on your main joystick PCB, or plugged into a compatible solderless board.
Finally, solder the red 5V power wire to the +5V point on your main PCB’s USB connection. This is typically marked or indicated by a red wire.
Overall, this upgrade is ideal for players who want a quieter, more durable joystick experience without sacrificing precision. If you are already using a Sanwa JLF, this optical PCB provides a simple and effective way to elevate your setup.
